Mobile AV Equipment News from Computing Services

Posted: 4/25/05

As part of the ongoing process to update classroom multimedia technology, we are removing the old audiovisual carts from Armitage Hall.  These are the carts that hold:
  • televisions
  • audio cassette players
  • slide projectors
These carts will be removed on 05/23/2005, in Armitage Hall only.  The CIT group, led by Harold Winshel, has a new digitizing lab where you can convert old media formats (cassettes, VHS, slides) to newer formats compatible with the smart classroom equipment (CD, DVD, PowerPoint).  This lab will be open by the end of the semester.  For further information about media conversion, please contact Harold Winshel at extension 6669.

Although the carts themselves will no longer be available in Armitage, we will be storing a few of the smaller pieces of AV equipment in other buildings on campus.  In the event that you need a slide projector or an audio cassette player in Armitage you will be able to sign it out for short-term use.  Should you need a piece of older AV equipment in a specific classroom throughout the semester, we can arrange to have it installed in that room for long-term use. There will be no change in other buildings at this time.  Please be assured that we will meet every AV need in Armitage Hall as requested.

If you have any questions or problems regarding the audiovisual equipment changes taking place in Armitage Hall, or you are interested in borrowing an older piece of AV equipment for your class, please contact:

UPDATE:

Posted: 4/27/05

Some ambiguous wording in the last "Mobile AV Equipment News" message made it seem like VHS (videotape) media would not be compatible with smart classroom equipment. All smartclassroom video decks are equipped to support both DVD and VHS playback.

There have also been some questions about overhead projectors in the classrooms. These will remain.

Sorry for any confusion.
